Respect for elders - a legacy for generations

There are things no textbook can teach us: how to respect our elders, be there when it matters most, and respond to kindness with kindness. These are values passed down through generations, and it is often through simple human attention that genuine care begins.
As part of the “Qogamgha qyzmet etemin” project, students from the “Balqash”, “Turkistan” and “Saryarqa” shanyraks of NIS Astana-Nura visited the “Qamqor otbasy” care home for the elderly in the city of Kosshy.
The visit took place on the eve of the International Day of Older Persons. The students came not only to offer their congratulations, but also to spend time with the residents, share warm moments and show their care and attention. The students’ parents prepared a festive dastarkhan and gifts for the elderly residents.
Over tea, the conversation soon turned to memories and stories from life. The older generation shared their wisdom and advice with the students, wished them success and well-being, and, at the end of the meeting, gave them their bata — a traditional blessing.
The 12th-grade students also joined the initiative. They held a community clean-up around the care home, tidying the yard and helping with the improvement of the grounds.
Sometimes, the most meaningful lessons happen outside the classroom — in a conversation, a helping hand, or a kind word. These moments teach us the true value of respect, compassion and care.
