Robots Meets Culture: WRO-2026 Regional Round Held in Kyzylorda

The regional stage of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO-2026) took place at Nazarbayev Intellectual School in Kyzylorda. A total of 26 teams from schools and supplementary education centers across the region participated in the competition.

This year’s theme, “Robots Meets Culture,” challenged students to combine modern technology with national heritage. Among the projects presented were robotic tour guides, solutions for exploring historical sites, automated felt-making devices, innovations aimed at revitalizing traditional crafts, and modern transport technologies featuring elements of autopilot systems.

The competition was held across the official WRO international categories: RoboMission (robots performing tasks autonomously), Future Innovators (presentation and defense of engineering projects), RoboSport (robot-based sports competitions), and Future Engineers (development of complex engineering and autonomous systems).

The event was organized by the autonomous educational organization Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, the national operator of WRO in Kazakhstan since 2014. Over the years, student interest in robotics and programming has grown significantly.

WRO is more than just a competition. It is a platform where technology helps bring culture to life, while students develop future-ready skills.
